Voice chat makes Nintendo Switch games even more fun, but the feature is supported by just a few select titles.
Voice chat is a must-have feature in modern multiplayer games, but Nintendo is still a bit behind the times. Only a handful of Switch games support voice chat as an enabled feature, and the system’s audio input interface still leaves something to be desired. Here’s every Nintendo Switch game that supports voice chat and what microphones players can use for it.
Below is a comprehensive list of every Switch game with voice chat.
- ARMS
- Dragon Quest Builders 2
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Mario Tennis Aces
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered
- Saints Row: The Third
- Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition
- Splatoon 2
- Stardew Valley
- Super Mario Party
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- TT Isle of Man
Voice chat features vary greatly between titles. Mortal Kombat 11 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have in-game voice chat between friends in online matches. Most other titles including Super Mario Party and Dragon Quest Builders 2 require players to join a voice chat lobby connected to the game. Upgraded versions of the Switch might have expanded voice chat features in the future.
Supported microphones for Nintendo Switch voice chat
To start using voice chat, players need to download the Nintendo Switch Online on their mobile device. The app is available for both Android and iOS for free. After logging in with your Nintendo Online account, games with voice chat are able to send push notifications to use your phone as a microphone.
In addition to serving as a microphone, the mobile device will also double as a speaker. Since microphone quality varies between devices, you can test the service out in the app to see how you sound to other users.
If you’d prefer something more personal, Nintendo also licenses some headsets for the Switch. These wired headsets come with a microphone that will automatically install itself on the console. There are also several third-party options for Nintendo Switch headsets, but they are usually not recommended by Nintendo. Be sure to double-check reviews or manufacturer recommendations to see if a given headset is compatible with Nintendo Switch voice chat.
