The multinational gaming company has branches in different regions of the world. Apart from its headquarters in Tokyo, Sega of America and Sega Europe look over the working of everything in their particular regions.

Recently, the researches at VPN Overview discovered a major chink in Sega’s armor.

According to a recent report by Techradar, VPN Overview, a company that provides cyber-security services, came across a “mis-configured S3 bucket” that could have led to a leak, exposing it to potential cyber attacks.

To give readers a brief idea of what went wrong, the security firm noticed that Sega Europe had stored important and sensitive files on a publically accessible data base. Essentially, the mentioned files could’ve been accessed by anyone who came across them using other details provided on the same cloud.

Additionally, VPN Overview also discovered that Sega’s European team had “compromised email and cloud services”. And that’s not where it all ended. In what could have been a nightmare, the “mis-configured S3 bucket” in question also had control over some of Sega’s crucial franchises, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Footbal Manager. It even gave access to Sega’s official website and there’s no end to what that could have led to.

Fortunately for Sega, VPN Overview were their guardian angles and informed them about the problem in time. And the company could rectify it before hackers came looking.
