Denuvo DRM support has been confirmed for Dying Light 2 on PC and Techland has explained why it’s included to quell the anger of some fans.
Fans have been waiting years for this sequel to arrive. It was originally intended for spring 2020, but you will finally be able to parkour and slay zombies with friends in just a couple of days.
While everyone is excited to explore and change the open-world, some of the community is miffed about the latest PC news.
Why Dying Light 2 has Denuvo
A Techland representative says Dying Light 2 has Denuvo DRM support to protect the game from piracy.
Unchy_Techland posted the following explanation on a Steam forum:
“To protect the efforts of the whole team from piracy we suffered when we released Dying Light 1, we’ve included the Denuvo system, at least for the launch period.
Being gamers ourselves, we understand your concerns, and we want to ensure that it will not impact your gaming experience. We continue putting extra resources into testing the game, and at this stage, we do not see any noticeable impact on the performance.”
Why some fans are angry
Some fans are angry that Dying Light 2 has Denuvo because it was only confirmed on February 1st through a back-end-Steam update.
For Reddit user bza4207, the issue is with the quiet announcement just a few days before launch. Others have commented that it feels pretty shady and has resulted in them no longer pre-ordering the game.
As for why Denuvo is so hated, one of the concerns is it impacting the performance of games. Another worry that if Denuvo ceases to exist, customers who paid for said game might longer be able to reactivate it.
It’s disappointing that the involvement of the DRM wasn’t announced with more transparency. However, Techland insists that there is no noticeable impact on performance, and they have also suggested it that it may only be around for the launch period.
