The 31st SEA Games will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam this year, with athletes from across the region representing their countries in various categories. It has recently been announced that Vietnam will continue the landmark precedent set by the Philippines in 2019 by featuring esports as a medal event.
Altogether, the 31st SEA Games will feature 40 sports spanning over 52 medal events. The esports category will feature eight esports titles with 10 medal events. These events are:
- League of Legends: Wild Rift – Male Teams
- League of Legends : Wild Rift – Women Teams
- Arena of Valor – Teams
- PUBG Mobile – Teams
- PUBG Mobile – Individual
- Free Fire – Teams
- League of Legends – Teams
- FIFA Online 4 – Teams
- Crossfire – Teams
- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang – Teams
During the 30th SEA Games, the Philippines included six esports as medal events, which were Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Starcraft II, Tekken 7 and Hearthstone. It seems like this time around, more emphasis is placed on battle royale titles.
From November 21 to December 2, 2021, the top athletes in the region will gather and compete in sports mainly played at the Asian Games and the Olympics.
This will be the second time that Vietnam has hosted the SEA Games. The country has successfully organized several international esports events, with many strong contenders vying for the championship.
