John Carpenter loves him some Necromorphs.
The filmmaker behind the Halloween franchise (not to mention The Fog and Escape from New York) has always expressed a fondness for video games, and recently said–and not for the first time–that he would welcome the opportunity to adapt Dead Space to the big screen.
According to a report on AV Club, when Carpenter was asked recently which video game he would like to bring to life, he said, “The only one I can think of–and I’ve mentioned it before–is Dead Space. That would make a real great movie. I could do that.”
Dead Space–a 2008 survival horror game developed by EA Redwood Shores–was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows as the debut entry in the Dead Space series.
Set on a mining spaceship overrun by monsters called Necromorphs, the player controls engineer Isaac Clarke as he navigates the ship and fights monsters, while “struggling with growing psychosis,” according to the description.
Praised for its atmosphere, game play and sound design, Dead Space has won numerous industry awards. The game gave birth to two numbered sequels (in 2011 and 2013) and several spinoffs. A remake–currently in development–is slated for release next year.
