It is hard to believe that we are coming up on the two-year anniversary for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S. Even after nearly two years have gone by, there are still tons of gamers that have yet to get their hands on either of the next generation gaming consoles. Supply shortages and various other factors have prevented an abundance of consoles from being produced and have made finding them similar to striking gold. This shortage coupled with inflation and production woes have led to Sony announcing a price increase for their PlayStation 5 consoles in select regions.
If you live in the United States, there are currently no plans for a price increase. However, if you live in Europe, UK, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, or Canada, the PS5 is about to get a bit more expensive.
With this big news coming from Sony, many gamers have already begun to speculate if Microsoft plans on following suit with their Xbox Series X|S. Usually when one of the major video game companies makes big announcements, their competitors try and do something similar. Not this time.
Is the Xbox Series X|S going to get a price increase?
Microsoft confirmed to Windows Central that there are no plans to raise the price of the Xbox Series X|S in any of its regions despite the PS5 having an uptick in price. Both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S with remain at their standard price of $499 and $299 respectively.
Based off both major video game companies coming out and releasing their statement regarding their consoles, it will be interesting to see how the news affects both the Xbox Series X|S and the PS5. It will also be interesting to see how Sony’s PS5 sales change with the added price. Will the price increase make Sony sell less consoles? Maybe, but knowing how popular PlayStation consoles are, I am sure they will do just fine.
On the other side of things, will the PS5 increase allow for more Xbox Series X|S consoles to be sold because it will be the cheaper of the two options to go with. Only time will tell.
Microsoft have made some pretty large moves in the gaming industry with their biggest being the release of the Xbox Game Pass. It is considered one of the best deals in the gaming industry right now. With all the big moves that Xbox has made over the past handful of years, Sony hasn’t done a ton to try and rival those big moves. An increase in PS5 price and no price increase planned by Microsoft for their Xbox Series X|S consoles, it appears that Microsoft has once again won another battle.
