Bloomington-based esports and digital entertainment company Wisdom Gaming has new leadership. Former Minnesota Vikings EVP & CMO Steve LaCroix has stepped up as the company’s new president and will report to Wisdom Gaming Founder and CEO Mike Zweigbaum.
“Wisdom Gaming has proven to be a driving force in the ever-changing nature of the esports and gaming landscape, and I am honored to be joining this exceptional company and leadership team,” LaCroix said in a release. “I’m excited to bring my background in working in traditional sports to further evolve our partnerships with brands, game publishers, and our local community to cement Wisdom Gaming as a leading esports entertainment powerhouse.”
LaCroix has more than 30 years of sports industry experience. In his previous role as Minnesota Vikings EVP & CMO, LaCroix oversaw Vikings-generated revenue, marketing, and strategy initiatives. As Wisdom Gaming president, he will focus on a long list of goals including strategic planning, organizational growth and structure, revenue generation, corporate partnership integration, new business opportunities, brand expansions, and community engagement.
“Steve has a proven track record as a dynamic and strategic leader within the professional sports landscape,” Zweigbaum said in the release. “In our time working together under a partnership with LS&E, the decision was clear that his experience working with some of the biggest names in sports and his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings will be invaluable during our next growth stage.”
Last October, Wisdom Gaming announced a partnership with the Mall of America that includes an 18,000 square esports broadcast studio and event space. The first of what the company says will be many in-person events — Riot Games’ Wild Rift North American Series (WNS) Season 1 Championship LAN — had more than 8,500 attendees.
A year earlier in October 2020, Wisdom Gaming announced a $3 million Series A.
