Qualcomm Technologies introduced it to the industry.
Many professional gamers play esports on the highly-end, liquid-cooled PCs, and compete in competition for the prize pool near $10 million. Those events attract 418 million mobile esports viewers worldwide now and at 2025 the global number of world viewers will get more than five48 million.
But smartphones broke down the barriers for access, making the potential audience for esports so much bigger, says Kevin Rosenblatt, General Manager for mobile at ESL Gaming. Currently 87,67% of the world population owns a smartphone, whereas 2.5 billion of that population are mobile gamers, who have the opportunity to compete in the mobile esports arena for the life-changing money.
We made a huge shift to mobile sports by creating a wide and accessible program, with no barrier to entry, Rosenblatt says. We’re aiming to create fandom across a game-agnostic competitive mobile gaming product, by creating the right environment for mobile esports to thrive long term.
With this mission in mind, ESL Gaming partners with Qualcomm to create theSnapdragonPro Series the world’s largest mobile epsorts ecosystem. Including the 2013 world renowned competition, tournaments in America, Europe, Middle East, China, North Africa and Asia-Pacific culminating with the live Masters tournament.
A world where everybody can be anybody.
In addition to playing a level, the ESL is fundamental to creating a meritocracy in which players from across the world can test their ability, regardless of where they live, their socioeconomic status or background. And so, any player from the world can be an entrepreneur.
I believe that these connected experiences are a real promise. From a competitive perspective, we develop that. From the first day of the day it’s all about getting to work. And then, no barriers exist. Players or teams can meet their own goals and standards.
The most important part of the puzzle is the representation. It’s why ESL tapped a diverse array of talent into the program to reflect back to the players and communities they were talking to. The company has been leading the movement toward mobile gaming, due to this diversity in the player base, and the goal is to continue to normalize that company.
The Snapdragon Pro Series consists of the Mobile Open, Mobile Challenge, and Mobile Masters. This game was designed to create the first world-class epic, a zero to hero story. Players move from their couch to the big stage. Snapdragon Mobile Open is designed for casual players, but robust enough for seasoned competitors. The content is intended to introduce new fans to the products and the ecosystems.
From here, ambitious players are able to get to the next level. There are a mobile Challenge program, weekly online broadcasts and structured competition, and live regional finals events. The top of the rankings is Mobile Masters. The world’s world’s most expensive players can play face-to-face. And for spectators and fans, there will be around the world 3,000 or 5,000 hours of content and opportunities to connect at live events.
Because we’ve already tried all the above, we believe we have achieved an unprecedented magnitude. It’s going to reach an addressable market with millions of players and fans.
The ESL Gaming x Snapdragon partnership is up to date.
Using the partnership between ESL Gaming and Qualcomm, 20 years of leaders in mobile technology and 20 years in esports contribute a substantial amount of revenue to the mobile gaming space. The two companies developed a series of a graphical platform and a tournament design, to ensure that players and teams are keyed into best mobile games.
We build the features that enable mobile gaming anywhere wherever you’ll find, says Matt Grossman, Product Marketer for gaming and esports at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The Snapdragon Pro Series exemplifies how our vision of mobile gaming is all about bringing the excitement of competitive gameplay to players around the world.
Snapdragon Elite Gaming is a top-tier feature set of Qualcomm’s premium smartphones. The set features over 50 features, as well as a full display with high frames and resolution, a latency decreases the touch input, and a deep sound that can be used for full immersion and battlefield awareness.
It also offers low latency both in the wireless and cellular access, because even the smallest moment of lag can be the difference between winning and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars. A more powerful phone and more immersive games mean that new players will get better. As a result, they’ll become more interested in the tools they need to improve, no matter whether they’re competing or not, simply because more powerful mobiles mean more immersive games.
Snapdragon is the heartbeat of many great experiences which are being powered globally and a heartbeat of our program, says Rosenblatt. Open, the challenge and the Masters, are the most driving forces.
We are excited to work together with the ESL, Grossman says. Its incredible rewarding seeing Snapdragon technology be the engine that drives increased esport participation and engagement, alongside the positive impact we had on the mobile gaming community.
