Women’s Hockey Battles No. 5 Northeastern to 1-1 Tie; NU Wins Shootout (2-0)

BOSTON, Mass. – The Providence College women’s hockey team tied No. 5 Northeastern, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon in Boston, Mass. The Huskies claimed the extra point by in shootouts by a score of 2-0.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

The Huskies got on the board with a power play goal by Skylar Fontaine at the end of period one. Fontaine tucked it behind Abstreiter at the buzzer to carry a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

 

The Friars tied things up, 1-1, with a goal from Delaney Couture (Shrewsbury, Mass.) on a turnover. The goal served as Couture’s first career goal and was assisted by Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.).

 

The teams skated through the final 20 minutes and overtime scoreless.

 

Northeasterns’ Peyton Anderson and Maddie Mills scored in the shootout, giving the Huskies the extra point in the Hockey East standings.

 

Northeastern finished with a 42-34 advantage in shots.

 

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) stopped 41 out of 42 shots faced in net improving her goals-against average to 1.70 and save percentage to .944 through nine games this season.
