Wytchwood, a crafting adventure game by Whitehorn Games and Toronto-based developer Alientrap, will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on December 9, 2021. You play as a witch in the woods who wanders the area, gathers magical ingredients, makes “sorcerous enchantments,” and passes judgement on a colourful array of characters.
Lovingly rendered storybook art style
Here’s the lowdown on what to expect on Wytchwood, plus its release date trailer (which is incidentally the same as a trailer from several months ago, but now with a release date slapped to the end):
Gather, collect, grow and craft bizarre ingredients: Toxic toadstools, eye of newt and bottled fear.
Explore an allegorical world of tall tales, uncovering colorful personas and fantastical narratives.
Research and concoct devious spells and sorceries. Turn the greedy into frogs! Trick the wicked with cunning curses!
Use your wit and guile to solve puzzles and best the strange monsters of the forest.
Crafting in video games is often a divisive feature. Many either love crafting for the customization it presents, or they think it introduces a whole extra layer of complication that isn’t worth the hassle. Honestly, I’m of the latter perspective. But if you’ve made it this far, you’re probably the former, so hopefully Wytchwood lives up to your expectations upon its release date next month.
Also, if you’re into gothic fairytales and haven’t played Lost in Random yet — you really oughta change that. AlienTrap Games is a video game developer based in Toronto while Whitethorn Games is an independent video game publisher with a focus on cozy games that are easy-going, fun and stress-free. The games are intended to be welcoming for all. The two companies have announced that their latest and upcoming project, Wytchwood, will release on December 9th 2021. Wytchwood is set for release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The game’s release date was confirmed via an official post on its Steam page stating, “Grab your grimoire and gather your potions, the time to craft your spells approaches! Though you forget, a deal was made, and you’ve a debt yet to be paid…The wait is finally over! Wytchwood will be releasing on December 9th!” Wytchwood is showcased quite well in its minute-long announcement trailer. The trailer commences by showing the main character gathering loot and items off the floor before entering a crafting menu. The trailer continues to exhibit different conversations and pieces of dialogue. It also does a good job at showing the different areas and environments for players to explore, as the graphics are quite welcoming.
