Speaking during a Microsoft Game Dev presentation for the 2022 Game Developers Conference, Microsoft’s content planning director Joyce Lin offered this impressive insight into Game Pass’ focus on quality as well as quantity, stating that some 60 GOTY winners have now been included in the subscription service since it launched in 2017. “From the beginning, we’ve focused on delivering a really high-quality library of games,” Lin says. “So I personally love this stat, which is that since launch, Game Pass has launched over 60 Game of the Year winners from over 30 awards, and this is across first-party and third-party.”
Having enough GOTY-winning titles to, on average, play one every month for the five years since Game Pass started is an impressive stat however you slice it. Lin goes on to reason that it “speaks to the quality of the library, [and] the quality of the creators that we get to work with.” Considering that Game Pass is now hundreds of games strong (especially factoring in the EA Play titles included with Ultimate), it’s pretty amazing how many world-class titles have come through the service — how many third-party titles especially, with only around a dozen of the 60+ games listed being from first-party studios.
How many of those GOTY winners have you played? What will be the next world-class game to join the Game Pass library? What the hell is Jetpac Refuelled doing on that list? Let us know what you think!
