It’s gonna be May for about 30 days at the time of writing, which means that it’s time for Xbox to update its free game offerings for the Games with Gold program. This month, subscribers get access to Yoku’s Island Express and The Inner World – The Last Wind on Xbox One and Hydro Thunder Hurricane and Viva Piñata Party Animals for Xbox 360 via backward compatibility. As usual, the Xbox 360 games are owned completely once claimed, while the Xbox One titles require an active subscription in order to play.

The month starts with the most critically acclaimed of the bunch, as Yoku’s Island Express is a unique and entertaining pinball-centric search action platformer. Players take control of a dung beetle who’s taking over postmaster duties on a faraway island. Riding atop a giant sphere, Yoku bounces through various tables and gains new power-ups all throughout this breezy six-hour journey.

This month’s other Xbox One game is 2017’s The Inner World – The Last Monk. A point-and-click adventure from the developers at Studio Fizbin, the game is a comical experience featuring original characters that originally made a splash on PC in 2013’s The Inner World.

Subscribers can also grab Hydro Thunder Hurricane as of May 1, but longtime subscribers may find that they already own the game. The arcade reboot was previously part of the program back in 2017, meaning that those who’ve kept up their Gold all that time get one less game this month. At least the other Xbox 360 offering is brand new for all, as the Viva Piñata minigame collection has rarely come up in conversation since its release back in 2007.
