One of the items XPG (ADATA) had to show off this year at CES was its new hybrid gaming mouse. I call it hybrid because it does more than just mouse around. Inside of the mouse is a built-in SSD for storing your games or other content. This means it is both a gaming mouse and an external SSD in one USB cable and device. They call it “your gaming library in your palm”.
Right now, it is a bit conceptual to see how the market responds to the idea. So there isn’t a release date available from XPG just yet, nor is there a price. It is truly a different approach toward combining products that we haven’t seen before. Borderline odd, while at the same time, doesn’t “not” make sense. I mean, if you are a hardcore gamers and prefer to drag your mouse around with you, why not pack in some storage into at the same time to get the most out of it.
The only drawback would be that future scalability is limited if the mouse lasts many years (for your needs, at least) but the storage one day becomes “not enough” for your average demand. However, it would be available in both 512GB and 1TB capacities, putting it on par with the average SSD. Thus it doesn’t fall into the realm of “gimmick”. It actually could have a lot of use.
As long as the company doesn’t lose focus on the gaming mouse being a gaming mouse. Which XPG seems to be aware of. The mouse hits on par with some of its other gaming mice (along with those of competing companies).
From performance to customizable buttons (including macros) and LEDs, this gaming mouse has it all. Plus, the SSD hidden inside. Specifications can be found below (under the video), and they may change if the company decides to improve on it between now and any potential release.
Again, this is just a conceptual product that isn’t in development yet. Clearly, they had a working model on-site at CES 2022, as you can see in the below video. Then again, it wasn’t connected so I guess we couldn’t completely confirm that. It is an interesting idea and it would be interesting to hear what others think.
