Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is getting a PS5 port in spring 2023, publisher NIS America has announced. The slick action RPG originally released for PS4 in February 2021, and, for the record, plays at a smooth 60 frames-per-second on PS5 — but this native version will sport all of the game’s cosmetic DLC. The official press release doesn’t mention any other enhancements.
Unfortunately, we wouldn’t bet on Ys XI having any kind of upgrade path if you already own the game on PS4. Its predecessor, the excellent Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, is also being ported to PS5 next month, and it’s been confirmed that there’ll be no upgrade option for existing PS4 players.
Oh, and it’s worth noting that you can play both Ys VIII and Ys IX right now if you’re subscribed to PS Plus Extra. For fans of the genre, we’d heartily recommend them.
