Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel arrives on Nintendo Switch this summer in Japan

Konami announced last year that it was hard at work on developing the new Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel, and we now have a release window of summer 2021 for Nintendo Switch in Japan. The news comes from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine (via Ryokutya2089).

The official title was revealed as Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Saikyou Battle Royale!! (Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Ultimate Battle Royale). In addition to partaking in Rush Duels in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS, we’ll get to check out game original stories in Saikyou Battle Royale.

If you’re not familiar with Rush Duels in Yu-Gi-Oh!, it’s a new card game currently exclusive to Japan. It’s a lot like the Speed Duels but with its own set of rules and can only be played with Rush Duel cards. One of the key differences between Rush Duels and the regular card game or Speed Duels is that players can normal summon or set as many monsters they want in a turn. However, when it comes to bringing out 5-star monsters or higher, you’ll need to Tribute Summon them as you would in the traditional format.

Another key difference is that players start Rush Duels with four cards but draw until they have five cards in their hand during each Draw Phase. The whole idea is to essentially speed up duels while keeping things a bit less convoluted with more straightforward rules and effects.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Saikyou Battle Royale!! launches for Nintendo Switch in Japan in summer 2021. Konami will share more launch details at a later date. The latest Yu-Gi-Oh! game to hit the Switch in the West was Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution.
