Discord And Xbox Are Making Voice Calls Way Better

If there’s one thing the Xbox has needed it’s a proper Discord app. And while the console still doesn’t have one it’s about to get the next best thing. The ability to hop into voice calls without the need for a phone. Earlier this year Microsoft and Discord made it possible to connect your Discord channels to your Xbox console. But you had to go through a few cumbersome steps of connecting your servers by way of the Xbox app on your smartphone.

Essentially starting the call on your phone and then transferring it to the Xbox. That process is on the way out. Today Microsoft revealed that it’s currently testing simply being able to hop in a voice call right from the Xbox Dashboard. No more phone, no more hassle, way more fun.

The Xbox Discord voice calls no longer need the phone app for testers

This feature will make its way to all users in time. But right now it’s currently only in testing for certain groups of users. You will need to be part of the Alpha or Skip-Ahead Alpha rings to participate in the test. And Microsoft doesn’t mention when this feature will be pushed out to all users.

You will also still need your phone for direct user-to-user voice calls, according to The Verge’s Tom Warren. I time, Microsoft may allow user-to-user calls through Discord to be started and joined without the phone as well, although it never states whether or not this will be done. For now, you will still have to transfer them from the phone app first.

The Discord improvement is a much-needed one that will make using Discord on Xbox more enjoyable and a quicker process. And users can simply open the Xbox Dashboard, click on the Discord button, and hop into any voice channel from any server. Once they link their accounts.
