Player names are an important aspect of your identity in Fortnite. Find out how to change your name on the Nintendo Switch in the battle royale.

Whether it’s a joke, a long-running tag, or something standard, your player name can say a lot about you in Fortnite. But you might get bored of having the same name after years of playing. Depending on your platform, like the Nintendo Switch, it can be fairly easy to change your in-game name.

Every platform that Fortnite is available on will have some kind of opportunity for players to change their own names. Some opportunities are free with some extra steps while others will require some cash. Luckily for us, the Nintendo Switch has a similar free process to the PC platform, and we’ll go over that process here.

Nintendo Switch Fortnite – How to Change Your Name

Both the PC platform and the Nintendo Switch players need to go through the Epic Games website in order to successfully complete a name change in Fortnite. While it’s a bit annoying if you’re on the Switch, the good news is that it’s free. Below you can find all the steps required to change your in-game name.

Changing Your Nintendo Switch Fortnite Name

  • Go to the Epic Games website and sign into your normal account used for Fortnite.
  • If you haven’t already, you’ll need to connect your Nintendo Switch account with your normal PC Epic Games account.
  • The name that Fortnite players use on Switch is the same as their name on the Epic Games site.
  • Click on your username at the top of the Epic Games page and look for the account section.
  • Head to ‘general’ and ‘account info’ in order to access the spot for your name.
  • There will be a blue edit box next to the name. Simply change the name there and you’re good to go.

You won’t need to worry about any names being taken on Epic Games because it functions the same as names from other services like Discord or Battle.net. Everyone is given a number along with their normal name so you can always find the player you’re looking for, regardless of the name chosen.

Unfortunately, if you’re on Xbox or PlayStation, you’ll have to change your username directly for those services. Not only is your name from those consoles the same as your Fortnite name, but it will also cost money to pick a new name.
